Rupert Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. He has been a full time singer-songwriter since the late 1990s. In fall 2006 he came to the US and is now based in New York City and Colorado. His music is an eclectic mix of acoustic, melodic art/folk, with flavors of jazz. And for you mystery lovers, our other featured act — the duo of Kristin Mooney and Willie Wisely (aka ‘the lover the keeper’) share with us these thoughts: “the lover the keeper cannot recall exactly when they first met. Minneapolis sometime in the early ‘90s. She remembers buying a tchotchke at his yard sale when he lived in Dinkytown. They sat on a bouclé day bed in the grass and admired the stitching on a tattered leather jacket. He recalls visiting her apartment on an orange Schwinn, left outside, unlocked. It was late morning. They talked about writing together years before they would. Their songs are threads of saturated dreams and memories. Private sounds wandering through a window propped open with a John Cheever book.”
